Xinjiang Yak
Xinjiang yak is a breed that can be used for both meat, milk and plush. It adapts to the harsh natural conditions of the alpine grassland, has strong stress resistance, is resistant to rough feeding, and is easy to manage. The carcass weight of an adult bull is 255 kg, and the slaughter rate is 52.42%; the carcass weight of a 2-year-old cow is 153 kg, and the slaughter rate is 47.96%. During the lactation period, the milk production is more than 300 kg, the annual output of wool is 1.47 kg, and the cashmere is 0.51 kg. Xinjiang yak milk is delicious and has high nutritional value. It is an organic food. Xinjiang yaks are mainly distributed in Altun Mountains, Kunlun Mountains, Pamirs and other alpine areas at an altitude of 2,400-4,000 meters at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains. The central production area is Bayinbulak District, Hejing County. There are 224,000 heads in Xinjiang, and 45,000 heads are slaughtered annually.
